August is such a weird month to me. It’s clearly still summer (read: HOT) but it feels like it should be thrown in the fall category. Kids are going back to school, grocery stores start selling apple cider and ripe apples and all of a sudden everything suddenly becomes pumpkin and cinnamon flavored.
This month’s Things We Heart is all about savoring those last few pieces of summer. This denim dress from Madewell is perfect for a late summer picnic. I also love Oribe Texturizing spray for the perfect beachy waves and Nars lipstick in Heat Wave is my favorite bright red-orange for a statement lip. Enjoy what’s left of summer! Fall is almost here!
Hello Everyone!! Sorry for being MIA the last week or so! Mitch and I recently expanded our family with a new puppy named Oscar and I am here to tell you all about it!
With that I will say….. puppies are a lot of work. When my 18 year old poodle Spike passed away last year I was absolutely devastated. He had been my dog through a lot of tough times in my life and had always been there for me. He was my best friend. It took awhile to think about the idea of getting another dog and I had some very high expectations. After 18 years I also forgot what puppies are like. I was expecting that we would go pick one out and he would be everything we wanted right away. I forgot about all the work involved and how much it would change our lives. Don’t get me wrong, he is the cutest little pork chop in the whole world and I already love him with all my heart but it’s easy to focus on the fun and exciting reasons you wanted to get a dog in the first place. It’s easier to forget about the 3am potty breaks and nighttime puppy cries, the constant chewing of fingers and shoes, the “accidents” on the carpet, the heartache that comes with leaving the house to the sound of sad little whimpers. But as difficult as this time can be it’s comforting to know that it’s just a phase and he’s just a baby trying to learn how to cope with challenges.
I leave you with a couple pictures of our sweet Oscar. I hope this face brings you some happiness on this glorious Friday!
Guys! I have the secret to next level salads right here! Homemade croutons. Seriously so good and so easy. These are the answer to the leftover bread you don’t want to throw away but have no other use for!
I’m going to be real with you, salads aren’t really my thing. Too many vegetables for my child-like palette. So if I’m going to eat one, I’m going to make sure it’s the best dang salad that’s ever lived and these croutons are going to be on it!
It’s funny… this summer has been so hot here in the STL cactus don’t even really seem that out of place. While I’m over this heat, (don’t worry when it’s freezing I’ll complain about that too) I am so into cactus decor and accessories right now.
I know we talked about my black thumb before but do you know how hard it is to kill a cactus?! I bought a little one for my house a couple months back and I don’t think I’ve watered it for close to a month. No seriously. I’m not exaggerating. It still looks like a million bucks too! Anyway, I found some badass cactus stuff I thought you’d like. Check it out below!
I don’t know about you all but I love watching the olympics! Seriously, I am glued for two weeks. Good-bye Netflix, good-bye Bachelor in Paradise. I have buff people to watch. It’s also really good gym motivation am I right? So I thought I would share something deliciously NOT healthy. But I guess it’s kind of healthy when there is fruit involved….. maybe? These gold medal brownie “medallions” are really tasty and beyond easy to make. Plus they are a total crowd pleaser!
